Students do their best learning when they feel safe, both physically and emotionally. I will:

Develop and implement a comprehensive school safety plan for the district
Work with the sheriff’s office to improve school resource officer training and availability to ensure students’ safety throughout the school day
Take steps to address drug use in schools
Improve resources and support for students with special needs
Provide resources to make Jones County schools a safe and welcoming place for students of all backgrounds, gender identities, races, and religions.

On the Issues

Jones County is blessed with a very talented corps of educators. These educators must be supported with adequate and appropriate resources. I will:

Work directly with teachers and administrators to understand what support is needed for them to be the best they can be
Improve resources and support for special educators and those specialising in students with special needs
Ensure all teacher training is relevant and up-to-date, making the best use of teacher training opportunities

Schools operate at their best when there is a consistent set of administrators, educators, and staff. I will:

Work directly with teachers to ensure their voices are heard and advocated for, improving their day to day work
Ensure there are clear career progression paths within the county to encourage educators to stay within Jones County
Improve teacher support programs through programs such as continuing education funding
